Mexican Seasoning

Spices can be so fun, especially when creating your own seasonings.  In our house we love some Mexican food, fajitas…tacos…Chimichangas!  Since we usually have at least one Mexican inspired dish each week at dinner I wanted to build my own Mexican seasoning.  When I would go to the grocery store I’d look on the back of mixed spice jars to see what was in the Mexican spice mixtures.  I used that to begin trying to make the seasoning.  There was some trial and error.  For the most part it was simple though.  Here’s what I came up with…

What you need

  • 2 TBSP Chili Powder
  • 1 TBSP Cumin
  • 2 TSP Garlic Powder
  • 2 TSP Onion Powder
  • 1 TSP Oregano
  • 1 TSP Paprika (I use smoked paprika)
  • 1 TSP Sea Salt
  • ½ TSP Black Pepper
  • ¼ TSP Roasted Red Pepper Flakes
  • ¼ TSP Cayenne Pepper
  • Seasoning Jar

How to make it

  1. Mix all spices together and pour into seasoning jar. (Using a funnel is helpful)  This will fill up one normal sized spice jar

Note: I like these seasoning jars.  However you can always reuse empty jars from seasonings you have bought. 

 

We have been pleased with this combination.  Great on chicken, beef, turkey, veggies…Use 1 or 2 TBSP to season desired food while cooking and of course enjoy!
